RAP, along with many other Colorado organizations are on a campaign to STOP “Secure Communities” now, because in reality it is not safe at all... What is "Secure Communities?"• This program will send the fingerprints of anyone arrested and booked in Colorado for anything to Immigration.• This includes the wrongly accused and innocent victims of domestic violence, citizens and noncitizens alike. Why is “Secure Communities” Dangerous?• It is a dangerous collaboration between Immigration and the State of Colorado which will hurt community policing.o More fear and mistrust of local police means less safe neighborhoods.o Witnesses and victims of crime could be afraid to cooperate with police.• We do not know enough information about the program’s implementation, its data collection, how it will be funded, or what negative effects it could have.• The program may allow for racial profiling and unjust arrests regardless of whether a person is convicted or not.TAKE TWO ACTIONS this week with hundreds of others & SAY NO TO “SECURE COMMUNITIES” NOW!• Call Governor Ritter now at (303) 866-2471 and tell him NO to “Secure Communities” because it will hurt us all.• Come to RAP’s Membership Meeting this Saturday, July 24 from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Library, 9898 E. Colfax Ave. Aurora, CO 80010 to learn more about this campaign and other RAP activities to get involved in.Join us and come together to hold Governor Ritter accountable and stop “Secure Communities!” Take action on behalf of RAP and our entire community! |
